Cyborg 009 (1968) - Episode 11

As with GeGeGe no Kitaro, this series is now a joint project with Hokuto no Gun. We'll try to get around to releasing revised versions of the earlier episodes at some point as well.

The torrent is here. Direct download link is here.

  4. 1 question, instead of subbing random episodes why not sub some of the great one shot ovas out there? The 80s gave us so many strange and wonderful ovas...

    1. Because I subtitle what I like, and these shows are what I like.

  5. Another question: instead of keep starting new projects/series, why not finish some of your older ones? As in, ones that were started years ago, yet still are not finished. Thank you.

    1. The answer to that question is kind of similar to the answer the one above, but I'll try to break it down in a bit more detail.

Subtitling is a hobby of mine. I have several hobbies, but subtitling is definitely the one that eats up the lion's share of my free time and spare money. I share my subtitles with anyone who wants to watch them, free of charge. People can donate on the site to help offset a tiny percentage of my expenses, but that doesn't happen very often. (Mega-thanks to the four individuals who have donated so far by the way, I really do appreciate your help).

I don't speak Japanese myself. Occasionally I find someone who will volunteer to translate something for me, but usually I have to pay a freelance translator. When I have enough money saved up to pay for a translated script, I will sit down and ask myself some questions to decide what episode I'm going to work on next. Which one of my regular projects has not had an episode released recently? Which projects do people thank me for in the comments section, and which releases get very little response? Sometimes I'll narrow the choices down to a few possibilities, and then ask myself: what do I really feel like working on? This is a hobby, and it's supposed to be fun. There are a lot of shows that I've been waiting to see subtitled for decades, and most of them have very little chance of being subtitled by anyone else. Sometimes I just feel like working on something that isn't one of my regular projects. I know that people are waiting to see new episodes of my main projects, and I do try to continue getting those out as often as I can. Sometimes I just do a single episode of something else for my own amusement, and I don't always release those one-offs. If I released everything I'd subtitled, I'd get a lot more comments like yours, and also a lot of people clamoring for more episodes of them.

Subtitling has been a dream of mine since the mid-1980s. There may be periods of time when I slow down, and periods when I'm getting new stuff out every week. But I am in this for the long haul. I'm not one of those people who dabbles in subtitling for a few years in college and eventually loses interest. New episodes of my main projects will continue to be released, slowly but surely. I still enjoy seeing new subtitled episodes of all of those shows myself. If subtitling any of those shows ever becomes a chore that I am no longer enjoying, I will drop that show and announce it on the blog. Otherwise, you can expect to see a sometimes slow, sometimes uneven rotation where the main projects each get a new episode whenever I have the time and money, and some side projects get released as well.
