GeGeGe no Kitaro (1971) - Episode 01

Surprise! In another joint effort with Hokuto no Gun, here's a Hallowe'en treat for you: the first episode of the color Kitaro series.

This does not mean that we're done with the black and white series. It has always been my intention to get around to releasing episodes from all 5 series of GeGeGe no Kitaro. While I don't think it's likely that I'll be able to get all 432 episodes subtitled in this lifetime, I definitely plan on continuing for as long as my blood continues to flow.

The original series will always be my favorite, but this series comes a close second. With the original voice cast and many of the same staff members, the atmospheric black and white is replaced by an amazing color palette and detailed background art typical of Toei anime from the early 1970s, taking full advantage of the boom in sales of color televisions. This series also features great new opening and ending sequences that were directed by Isao Takahata (of "Grave of the Fireflies" and Studio Ghibli fame).
