When Vortex finished subtitling Gatchaman II last year, the format it was released in was a bit unusual...windowboxed with the subtitles in a black area below the video. I asked if it would be possible to redo them in the usual 4:3 frame, and she graciously agreed to do so.
While I have been doing the encoding on Gatchaman F (more episodes should be forthcoming soon), I can't take any credit for this project, other than using my seedbox to distribute it. Seeing Gatchaman II fully subtitled has been something I've wanted to see for many years. Massive thanks to Vortex and everyone involved in the project!

Any news on the rest of Gatchaman F?
ReplyDeleteThere has been a snag because the translator who worked on episodes 5-7 has disappeared. The project will definitely continue as soon as possible, they are currently looking for a new translator and I'm still on board as the encoder.
DeleteThat's great! Thanks so much for your hard work.
DeleteIt would have been really cool if Vortex had been able to use the same english dub voice actors from the first Gatchaman series they encoded. All the 'full frame' version appears to be is the same as the existing Gatchaman 2 complete torrent with the subtitles overlaid on top of the same footage in 4:3 full frame with japanese audio again.
ReplyDeleteI don't know of any fansubber that has the money to rent out a studio and hire voice actors to make an English dub version of the anime that they are subtitling. Nor do I know of any fansubber that would have any interest in doing that.
DeleteSo you're saying the original Gatchaman english dubbing was done by the original studio? Why wasn't it done with the Gatchaman 2 and Gatchaman F series by the same studio?
DeleteThere is a very long history of different dubbed versions (Gatchaman was adapted into a show called Battle of the Planets and later there was another dubbed version called G-Force, before the final more accurate dubbed version was released on DVD. Certain episodes of Gatchaman II and Gatchaman F were at one point adapted into a series called "Eagle Riders". There were many different studios involved over many years, if you want more details you can check out the Gatchaman page on Wikipedia or the excellent fan site http://gatchonline.com
DeleteThank you Vortex! (again) :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting too Nanto! Much appreciated.
Hmm... Is there anyone seeding this thing?
DeleteGatchaman (original) got dubbed most recently in the ADV release in the USA - earlier dubs usually messed around with the episodes, order, music, etc, but this one was closer to the Japanese. But they never did II or F so there's nothing out there for Unknown.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes people were seeding - dl quite fast yesterday.
Sigh, was a pain to get the torrent working!!! The tracker or whatever (bakabt.me) was refusing the file because of the version of uTorrent was not on the 'whitelist'. Even the new version isn't on that list, so I had to google like crazy to find a version that was on their list and FINALLY it started downloading.
DeleteI need to get this! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot for gatchaman II, I really want to see Gatchaman F, thanks!
