Dororon Enma-kun (1973) - Episode 18

A tragic love story involving a Yokai who has taken the form of a bear-skin rug. Big thanks to Salvatore for helping out with the translation of this episode!

EDIT: I made a few minor changes, so if you downloaded this before you may want to grab it again. The CRC for the corrected version (available now from both torrent and DDL) is 1BC50CC6.

The torrent is here. Direct download link is here.

  1. Oh, didn't know you were subbing this. I'm glad I decided to follow your blog, it really is full of gems. I hope you decide to fill in the episodes you skipped, but I am nonetheless very grateful. Thanks!

    1. Madolche, Nanto is only doing selected eps from Dororon, not the entire series.

Nanto mentioned this a few update posts back, just so you know.

  2. I agree with Madolche. You should totally finish it.

  7. Nanto, did you hear about Doraemon getting shown on American televison by Disney? They're gonna mangle it horribly!

Animenewsnetwork.com had an article about it.

    1. No I hadn't heard that. Interesting.

I don't watch English dubbed anime period end of sentence. In my opinion the quality of dubbing in the US has always ranged from appallingly bad to merely mediocre. Even more recent dubs where they don't mangle the story just aren't my cup of tea. I just like the way Japanese voice actors sound, and in general I've always preferred to watch foreign movies and TV in their original language with subtitles.

I also hate when US companies bring over Japanese programming like Iron Chef or Game Center CX and ruin them with annoying narration.

  8. Since you won't do the entire Enma-Kun series, any chance you could tackle Cutey Honey Flash sometime after this project is done? Sailor Spork is not active anymore, so...that would be much appreciated, given you did finish off the original.

  9. Very unlikely...I've never seen any of the newer versions of Cutey Honey (other than the original series), and in general I don't tend to subtitle 1990s anime.

If I got hold of uncompressed DVD-9s of the series and someone volunteered to translate it for me, it's not outside the realm of possibility. But I'd guess Majokko Meg-chan is probably higher up on the list of possible shows I'd ever get around to working on.

  10. Well, fair enough.

    I sure wouldn't mind seeing Meg-chan, though.
